February’s job market remained resilient, with steady employment growth, but cooling trends continued to surface. While hiring persisted across key industries, job gains slowed compared to recent months, and wage growth remained moderate. Here’s a breakdown of the latest employment data from the BLS Employment Situation Summary released on Friday, March 7, 2025:
Unemployment Rate: Slight Increase to 4.1%
The unemployment rate remained largely unchanged at 4.1%, with 7.1 million people unemployed. The jobless rate has fluctuated between 4.0% and 4.2% since May 2024.
Jobs Added: +151,000
Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 151,000 in February, slightly below the previous 12-month average monthly gain of 168,000.

- Financial Activities: +21,000
- Transportation & Warehousing: +18,000
- Social Assistance: +11,000
- Federal government: -10,000
Labor Force Participation: Steady at 62.4%
The labor force participation rate showed little change from the previous month.
Wages and Work Hours: Increased by 10 Cents
Average hourly earnings increased by $0.10 (0.3%) to $35.93. Over the past year, earnings have risen by 4.0%. The average workweek for all employees held steady at 34.1 hours.
