The December job market closed the year on a strong note, with employment gains in health care, retail trade, and government. Despite a steady unemployment rate, these sectors’ growth highlights the resilience of the labor force in an evolving economy.
Here’s a recap of the December employment situation from the recent BLS Employment Situation Summary released on Friday, January 10, 2025:
The national unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1%, with 6.9 million people unemployed. Long-term unemployment accounted for 22.4% of this figure, with little movement compared to prior months.
