In April 2025, the U.S. labor market continued to show modest growth. Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 177,000, consistent with the prior 12-month average (+152,000), while the unemployment rate held steady at 4.2% for the third consecutive month.

The labor force participation rate showed little movement, remaining consistent with previous months.
Average hourly earnings increased by $0.06 (0.3%) to $36.06. Over the past year, wages have grown by 3.8%. The average workweek held steady at 34.3 hours.
