BAR (CODE) HOPPING IN VEGAS – A REVIEW OF GS1 CONNECT 2012
|
Our latest conference appearance was attending the GS1 Connect 2012 event in Las Vegas from June 4th-7th. Every year this conference features active Trading Partner Roundtables, industry leading Keynote speakers and an Exhibit area amongst other things. If your world revolves around bar codes, RFID, data synchronization and trying to resolve Supply Chain issues through the use and implementation of GS1 Standards, then this is the show for you. The attendees list was a venerable “who’s who” of retailers and their suppliers. The food/beverage, grocery, apparel, and manufacturing industries were well represented to name a few. The consistent traffic flowing past our exhibit area and the conversations that followed would lead one to believe that EDI best practices and business processes is a never ending battle and constant hot spot for Trading Partners. Hopefully for once, what happens in Vegas will NOT stay there! Hiring skilled, permanent resources remains at a premium across the board. There is a battle for talent going on and experienced job candidates that fit the “jack of all trades” mold are in demand. It also was apparent the need for consultants/contractors that can support adhoc or as needed requests is picking up dramatically. All things considered, I’d say it was a positive event for EDI Specialists and we are looking forward to the next one. Until then, stay cool and enjoy the dog days of summer.
