Embracing AI: Pros & Considerations

AI Staffing

Excitement was the top emotion reported by business and technology leaders surveyed in Deloitte’s State of Generative AI in the Enterprise Q1 Report (Figure 1). Despite excitement and fascination with AI, uncertainty was the third most common emotion felt by industry leaders.

Here are 4 pros and considerations of embracing AI in the workplace:

PROS

1. Replacing Repetitive Processes

Artificial intelligence has the power to replace repetitive jobs with automation. By cutting out time-consuming, monotonous work, employees can focus on more human challenges that take thought, creativity, and personalization.

2. Automating Manufacturing

Manufacturing tasks can be automated with AI-powered robotic systems to reduce labor-intensive processes. AI also supports quality control in real-time and even optimizes the supply chain throughout the manufacturing process

3. Enhancing Healthcare Systems

AI revolutionizes the front end and back end of healthcare. From everyday patient vitals to accelerating drug discovery, and everything in between like patient monitoring and support.

4. Mitigating Bias

Implementing AI can work towards eliminating bias through diverse data, training, regular audits, and more. Establishing frameworks for AI to follow takes thought and accountability from leaders not only within a business, but all stakeholders such as developers, regulators, and executives to define standards and ethics.

CONSIDERATIONS

1. Talent Gap

AI advancements are rapid, complex, and in demand – causing a talent shortage across all industries. “Only 47% of respondents agree that they are sufficiently educating their employees on the capabilities, benefits, and value of generative AI,” according to a talent insight report from Deloitte

From Deloitte’s report, the top 3 sought-after AI jobs are those of AI makers:

  1. AI Researchers
  2. Software Developers
  3. Data Scientists

To avoid inadequate implementation and allocate resources more efficiently, consider working with a staffing agency specializing in IT to hire experts with artificial intelligence skills.

2. AI’s Lack of Creativity

Since AI relies on algorithms and data, its knowledge is limited to what it is trained on. Creativity and thinking outside the box are essential for problem-solving, innovation, human collaboration, and moral consideration.

3. Reduction of Employment

AI capabilities can go in a positive and negative direction. While AI has the potential to create new jobs and opportunities, concerns arise over the potential displacement of workers in industries heavily affected by automation and replacing manual labor.

4. Social Concerns

To maximize benefits and promote ethical societal values, bias, privacy, job displacement, and autonomy all should be addressed to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability when implementing AI systems.

A little bit of uncertainty comes with anything exciting. Although AI brings vast efficiency and potential for growth, there are things to consider when entering uncharted waters. Whether it’s financial success or curing a disease, human decision-making and AI are able to complement each other.
